6 steps to planning the perfect winter escape in Jasper National Park

CAN’T WAIT ANOTHER MINUTE FOR SKI SEASON TO REV-UP AGAIN? WELL, THE WAIT IS (NEARLY) OVER! WITH MARMOT BASIN OPENING IN EARLY NOVEMBER, HERE ARE 6 STEPS TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE MOST EPIC SKI SEASON YET.

STEP 1: GET YOUR TICKET TO RIDE

You can’t hop on a chair lift without a lift ticket, so getting one is definitely a good place to start! Whether you want to go for a weekend, a day or the entire season, Marmot Basin offers a variety of passes for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities.

MARMOT ESCAPE CARD

For $75, the Marmot Escape Card provides card holders with half price lift tickets all season long, and tons of other perks (including discounts on hotels, food, rentals and lessons!)

2017/18 SEASON PASSES

If you plan on hitting the slopes in Jasper multiple times this year, getting a 2017/18 Season Pass is an obvious no-brainer! Offering full season passes, mid-week passes and discounted student and senior passes, Marmot Basin strives to ensure the mountain is accessible to everyone who wants to explore it!

Pro Tip: Save big by purchasing a season pass for Marmot Basin before October 31st!

STEP 2: FIND A PLACE TO STAY

From mountain luxury to rustic cabin comfort, Jasper’s accommodations are sure to please every ski bum!

Want to soak in a hot tub after your ski day? Most of Jasper’s hotels offer hot tubs to give guests the opportunity to rejuvenate before conquering any upcoming adventures! The Chateau Jasper, the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre and the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge also offer spa treatments to travelers who need a little extra relaxation after a long day on the slopes.

STEP 3: PREPARE FOR POWDER

In Jasper, snow days are the best days. Though it may not be snowy in the city centres, Jasper’s mountain tops have already started experiencing winter conditions – and the snow isn’t stopping anytime soon! With a total snowfall of 84 cm so far, Marmot Basin is getting stocked up for a powder-filled season.

Before making fresh tracks in the snow, be sure to take some time to get all the right winter clothing and equipment. Dig your boots out of the closet, try on your winter jacket and grab your warm base layers to keep you warm as you approach the mountain-top.

Need some rentals? Marmot Basin,  Pure Outdoors and Edge Control all offer a wide selection of ski and snowboard rentals for all abilities.

STEP 4: GET READY TO CONQUER VERSATILE TERRAIN

With 1,675 acres, 86 runs and 3,000 vertical feet of diverse terrain, Marmot Basin has plenty of runs for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders.

Whether you want to race down a black diamond, catch some air in the terrain park or go for a leisurely ride down a green run, Marmot’s crowd-free routes and lift lines offer visitors the opportunity to explore the diversity of the mountain in just one visit!

STEP 5: KNOW WHERE TO APRÈS-SKI

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a novice snow bunny, there’s nothing quite like celebrating a successful day on the slopes with Jasper’s après ski.

After conquering your last run of the day at Marmot Basin, warm up with a fresh pint and some delicious grub at one of Jasper’s local establishments. If it’s Friday night, head down to the Jasper Legion for open jam night. The Athabasca Hotel and The Whistle Stop Pub also host a variety of live music performances throughout the winter months.

Jasper is also home to numerous yoga studios that offer night-time classes, so take some time to stretch out those tired muscles with an evening yoga class at Jasper Wellness.

STEP 6: HAVE FUN!

Last, but definitely not least – have the best time ever!
