5 Adventurous Date Ideas in Jasper

Fall deeper in love in the wild heart of Jasper National Park. These winter date ideas are a must for you and your better half to try:

1. Experience a Maligne Canyon Icewalk

Maligne Canyon is the deepest accessible canyon in Jasper National Park and simply breathtaking year-round. But February and winter months offer the unique opportunity for you and your loved one to explore ice caves together, chase frozen waterfalls, and walk the frozen canyon floor on a guided Icewalk Tour. No gear? No problem! Boots, ice cleats, and helmets are included with tours. Your love will keep you warm, but we do suggest bundling up in layers of thermals and snow pants for unexpected chills during this adventure.

2. Stargaze in one of the Largest Dark Sky Preserves

Power down and look up at the wonder of one of the world’s largest Dark Sky Preserves. Gaze at millions of twinkling stars stretched across miles of mountains. For amazing views of Jasper’s dark skies through the largest, most powerful telescopes in the Rockies, visit the Jasper Planetarium. Spotting a shooting star or catching a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis is nothing short of magical. There’s no better way to appreciate the universe for bringing the two of you together than by connecting to the night sky, moon, stars, and beyond.

3. Skate, Ski, & Snowshoe

Glide across frozen Lake Mildred, hand in hand.

Technically, these are three unique suggestions. But you can visit the Winter Activity Centre at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to try them all! Equipment rentals are offered by the hour or full day for adventures from sunrise to sundown. Skate across frozen Lake Mildred, hand-in-hand. Ski miles of groomed cross-country trails surrounded by sweeping alpine vistas. Or take your love to new heights on a snowshoeing adventure for unspoiled mountain views. Choose an activity you both love, or try something new together. After all, if you stumble, your partner will be there to catch you!

For downhill ski lovers, you’ll love hitting the slopes together at Marmot Basin. Known for its varied terrain, elevated base, fewer crowds (and shorter lift lines) you’ll love spending quality time shredding the slopes together. Keep things playful all the way through Après in the Emerald Lounge with classic cocktails and frosty pints of JPL Premium Dark Lager.

4. Embark on a Winter Wildlife Safari

It’s truly remarkable to spot animals in their natural habitat—from the smallest of critters like Pika and Porcupine to larger local residents like elk and wolves. Home to 53 species of mammals, Jasper is teaming with wildlife of all sizes. While bear and marmots are known to hibernate in winter, most other animals like elk, wolves, deer, and bighorn sheep, are active in the Park. For the best chances of viewing wildlife from a safe a respectful distance, join a Winter Jasper Wildlife Tour. Capture beautiful photos with your loved one and learn about Jasper’s rich biodiversity from local guides who are trained to seek out all of the park’s wild inhabitants.

5. Retreat to the Spa

To end your adventure-filled day together, put on your plush bathrobes for some much-deserved pampering. Discover mountain wellness treatments nourished by nature at the Fairmont Spa. Recount the highlights of your day together or share a moment of blissful tranquility during a side-by-side couple’s massage with nourishing essential oils. If more than a moment of wellness is desired, plan a full day of spa serenity. Start with a dip in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub overlooking the frozen shores of Lac Beauvert. Detox in the eucalyptus steam room and indulge in a head-to-toe treatment, which includes an Aroma Manicure, Alpine pedicure and your choice of Jasper wrap, Custom Cleanse Facial or Relaxation Massage.
